PRIME Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s scheduled visit to Port Lincoln has been cancelled.

Mr Turnbull was set to speak at the Pier Hotel from 7.45pm to 8.30pm in the wake of last week’s three day power outage which forced the Eyre Peninsula into lock down.

The Port Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and Tourism was hosting the event.

Chamber president Richard Horgan said the Royal Australian Air Force was unable to land in Port Lincoln due to poor weather.

Mr Horgan said Mr Turnbull was due to tour the Fresh Fish Place and he was also expected to meet with Cleanseas, the Regional Development Association, health, tourism and abalone industry representatives, as well as Port Lincoln City Council mayor Bruce Green.

A statement on the body’s website this morning said it was “an opportunity for any business owner or operator to speak with (the Prime Minister) regarding the impact the recent power outage has had on your business.

“This is a unique opportunity and the PLCC&T invites you to take this chance to speak up about your concerns about recent events and the threat which subsequent power outages will have on your business”.

Mr Horgan said following last week’s power outages, the chamber had decided to extend the nomination period for its Business Excellence Awards on November 4.

He said given the majority of people had no access to the internet for about three days, the chamber would extend nominations until the end of this week.

Mr Horgan said people could visit http://portlincolnchamber.com.au/award-nomination-submission/ for more information, or to nominate.
