Woman burnt in Port Lincoln car fire

A WOMAN suffered burns to her arms and legs when the car she was in was set on fire in Port Lincoln on Saturday night.

Police and emergency services responded to reports of a car fire in King Street just after 9pm on Saturday.

The woman, who was sitting in the car at the time of the fire, sustained burns to her arms and legs.  

She was taken to the Port Lincoln Hospital for medical treatment and then flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. 

Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A 34-year-old man was arrested by police at the scene.  

He also sustained burns to his hands and was taken to the local hospital for treatment.

He has been charged with acts to endanger life, aggravated assault causing harm and property damage by arson.  

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Port Lincoln Magistrates Court on Monday.

He was also issued a Police Interim Intervention Order (PIIO), which provides further protection for the victim.

The car was completely destroyed by fire.
