The availability of kerbside recycling has seen Port Lincoln residents increase recycling efforts over the last 10 years.
The Port Lincoln Resource Recovery Centre, managed by Veolia, collects between 21 and 24 tonnes a week.
Veolia Port Lincoln acting manager Hans Stoetzer said he had definitely seen an increase in recycling coming through the centre.
“There’s been an increase in people putting out their recycling bins,” he said.
What to recycle in your yellow bin:
- Milk and fruit juice cartons
- All glass containers (lids off and in your waste bin)
- All plastic bottles/containers with a recycling symbol (lids off)
- All cans – aluminium and steel (even aerosol cans)
- Newspapers, paper, magazines and advertising material
- Cardboard
Metals, wood, whitegoods and green waste can also be recycled but they must be taken directly to the Resource Recovery Centre for recycling.
The Port Lincoln City Council’s operations manager Craig Matena said the Resource Recovery Centre was an easy access place for residents to deliver extra unwanted recyclable materials.
For the pile of empty glass and plastic bottles and cans sitting at home, 10 cent refunds are available in Port Lincoln at Rick Daniells Recycling Centre.
Anyone living in Port Lincoln who would like to have kerbside recycling needs to have a 240-litre green bin with a yellow lid, available at Mitre 10 for $89.95.
