Police are investigating the stabbing of a woman at the Coles supermarket complex in Port Lincoln on Tuesday afternoon.
Just before 5.20pm, police and emergency services were called to a business on Liverpool Street after reports a woman had been stabbed in the hand by a man before he left the scene in a vehicle.
The victim, a 37-year-old Port Lincoln woman, was taken to the Port Lincoln Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and released a short time later.
Police located the man’s car parked at a nearby hotel and spoke to staff who confirmed the man was staying at the premises.
Local police attempted to make contact with the man in his room, however STAR group officers were called in when the man failed to respond to police direction.
At 9.30pm STAR group officers entered the room where they found the man unconscious.
He was taken to hospital in a critical condition and was expected to be airlifted to Adelaide.
Although the investigation is in its early stages police believe the incident was not random.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident, who has not yet spoken to police, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at crimestopperssa.com.au/.
