This week’s photo is of a locally caught mulloway taken on a fresh squid head.
It goes to show you don’t always need to travel to the far west to be in with a chance to catch a big fish.
Now for what was biting and where.
Mixed reports of mulloway from under size to around 30 pound with the occasional larger fish including a confirmed 70 pounder.
According to some who fished last week there was way more people up there than mulloway!
Some great salmon fishing was had at Almonta and Gunyah beaches...
Some huge salmon were caught (they have been a stand out fresh bait to use) plus plenty of sharks and rays.
Some great salmon fishing was had at Almonta and Gunyah beaches ranging from trout up to 4 kilograms.
Big tommies were in good numbers as well.
A few whiting were found inside the bays along with gar, salmon trout, tommies, trevally and snook.
The occasional kingfish was caught and released including a couple off the rocks.
Dutton Bay had lots of gar and legal whiting.
Some baitfish schools are starting to show up in the bay being harassed by tommies, and salmon trout.
Good catches of squid came from Boston Island, North Shore, Louth, Horse Rock and Proper Bay.
Rat kingfish were caught between the marina and the North Shore.
Whiting reports came in from Boston Island, the sandhills, The Monument, Horse Rock, Louth Bay and Thistle Island.
Port Neill/Arno Bay
Some one kilogram salmon are showing up on the beaches and a few yellowfin as well.
Offshore boaties are getting whiting, squid and snook.
A few yellowfin whiting were caught on better tides north to Port Neill and south to Louth Bay.
Whiting were caught at The Group and grounds around Moonlight Bay, Point Bolingbroke.
Some kingfish from 50 centimetres to over a metre have been sighted at the jetty and marina.
