Senate inquiry submissions close soon

Individuals and organisations have until April 3 to make a submission into the senate inquiry into the site selection for the proposed National Radioactive Waste Management Facility in Kimba and Hawker.

The senate economic committee will only accept submissions addressing its terms of reference, with a particular focus on the appropriateness and thoroughness of the site selection process for the facility.

The inquiry will look at the financial compensation offered to applicants for the acquisition of land; how the need for ‘broad community support’ has played and will continue to play a part in the process; how any need for Indigenous support has played and will continue to play a part in the  process; whether and, or, how the government’s Community Benefit Program payments affect broad community and Indigenous community sentiment; whether wider (Eyre Peninsula or state-wide) community views should be taken into consideration and, if so, how; and any other related matters.

Submissions can be made online or sent to the committee secretariat at or Senate Standing Committees on Economics, PO Box 6100, Parliament House, Canberra ACT 2600.

People can also track the progress of the senate inquiry through the inquiry’s website.
