Four seasons in one week


Saturday, April 14

PLAYERS experienced every season last week. With gale force winds and the odd shower to contend with it was no wonder only 44 men and six women braved the conditions to play the stableford round sponsored by Lincoln Rural Supplies.

Visitor Colin Wootton joined the field.

Cynthia Thompson scored 35 points to win the women’s competition while runner up Jenny McDonald came in with 27.

For the men, A grade was won by Bill Bascomb, with equal best score of the day, 38, from Jayden Lloyd, 37. Brenton George also scored 38 to win B grade from Andrew Tiller, 36.

In C grade, Jim Kassiotis, 37, won from Tim Pobke, 35.

Run downs went to Ben White and Haydn Myers, both 36, as well as Anthony Manuel, 35, and Mick Hegarty, 34.

Nearest the pins (NTP) were first, Haydn Myers; sixth and ninth Brian Henson, 10th Ben White, 12th Heather Darley.

There were just three par three birdies for the day which came from Ben Abley on the sixth and Tim Pobke and Brian Henson on the ninth .

Thursday, April 12

The day’s par round sponsored by the Grand Tasman Hotel attracted 17 women resulting in a DSR of 73.

Ellie Hyde, one up, won from Adie Fraser, one down, while run downs went to Helen George, two down, and Janet Whittaker, three down.

Kaye Jaensch, square, was the nine-hole winner. Helen George was nearest the pin on the sixth and Sue Bishop nearest the pin after two shots on the ninth.

Points for the day: Ellie Hyde, 3, Adie Fraser, 2, and Helen George, 1.

Wednesday, April 11

In spite of the forecast hot day a strong field of 65 men including visitor Colin Wootton contested a stableford round sponsored by Sarin Group. The DSR was 71.

The score of the day came from John Strycharski, 44, to win A grade from Don Henson, 41. B grade winner Graeme Dyke scored 41 with runner-up Tony Dragun on 39.

In C grade Alf Pretty won with 40 from Lindsay Gordon, 37.

Run downs went to Rex Martin, 38, and Josh Hausler, Wayne Smith, Daryl Evans and Chris Cottrell, all on 37.

Nearest the pins: first Danny Gordon, sixth Josh Hausler, ninth Warren Rosman, 10th Maurie Barry and 12th Mike Munro.

Par three birdies were scored by Daryl Evans, Chris Cottrell and Bill Bascomb on the sixth and Graeme Dyke, Rex Martin and Colin Wootton on the 12th.

Monday, April 9

Surprisingly 13 men and four women braved unpleasantly hot, windy and dusty conditions for this month’s stableford for seniors.

Helen George, 31, had the best score for women ad husband Brenton George, 39, kept it in the family to win the men’s competition while runner-up Allan Reynolds, scored 36 as did Bevis Frances who counted out Mike Munro for third.

Janet Whittaker, 20, won the front nine and Danny Gordon, also 20, won the back nine.

Sunday, April 8

A small field of four took part in the day’s stableford with the best score coming from Jason Verhees, 32.
