Big victory maintains perfect Hawks start

West Coast breezed past Central Eyre by 57 points in round three of Mid West football on Saturday.

The Hawks maintained their winning start in a repeat of last season’s grand final with a 16-16 (112) to 7-13 (55) victory.

Nicholas Schumann kicked four goals for the Hawks, while Tasman Fitzgerald booted three in response.

West Coast took control from the outset to lead by 27 at quarter-time and they continued to extend the margin with four goals in the second quarter and three in the third, as the Bulldogs could only manage two majors.

The Hawks cruised home to remain the only side with a perfect start.

A dominant Elliston thrashed bottom side Wudinna by 114 points.

The Roosters pulled clear in the second quarter to enjoy a 20-17 (137) to 3-5 (23) victory.

The sides were separated by only one goal at quarter-time, but Elliston kicked seven goals to one behind in the second term to put themselves on the path to victory.

Elliston added five goals to one in the third term to extend the lead to 76 points by the final break, before kicking another five goals to no score in the fourth quarter.

Tom Rumbelow grabbed five goals for the Roosters and Peter Carter added four, while Joseph Burgoyne, Otis Carter and Liam Newton finished with three goals.

Tyson Jackson, Heath Zwar and Bronte Ingomar were on target for Wudinna.

A big final quarter helped Wirrulla to a 16-13 (109) to 12-6 (78) win against Western Districts.

The sides were level at three-quarter time, only for the Bombers to push clear to give the Tigers a third successive defeat at the start of the season.

Districts led by four points at quarter-time yet Wirrulla dominated the second term with six goals to one to lead by 27 points at half-time.

That was wiped out by a Districts fightback in the third term as they booted six goals to one to draw level and create a dramatic finale.

It was all Wirrulla in the final quarter as the hosts kicked five goals to only three behinds to triumph.

Simon Webb led with four goals for Wirrulla, while Tigers forward Kingsley Ware kicked six majors.

West Coast won a tight B grade contest with Central Eyre by six points.

The Hawks held off a final-quarter revival to win 8-5 (53) to 6-11 (47).

Wirrulla proved too good for Western Districts as they recorded a commanding 106-point victory.

The Bombers dominated throughout the contest against the premiers to win 19-9 (123) to 2-5 (17).

Wudinna defeated Elliston via a forfeit.
