Ranges’ strength shows

Eastern Ranges 23-16 (154) def Ports 7-8 (50)

IT was a great day for football for Eastern Ranges’ first home game for the 2018 season.

Premiers Ports have lost many quality players from their 2017 team and their young players were going to have to stand up.

The game started as though Ranges meant business with three quick goals in three minutes from Jenner, McCallum and Elliott as Kwaterski delivered the ball beautifully into the forward lines.

Ports spent the rest of the quarter trying to catch up and they did.

Through tough, hard and skillful football, they used Masters well up forward to be only three points behind after the first, with the scores sitting at Ranges 3-6 (24) to Ports 3-3 (21).

Second quarter started very much the same as the first with Norris kicking a bomb from 50 and Jack Kenny kicking a left foot goal from the 50 infront of the complex crowd.

Ranges were getting away from Ports slightly but Masters was fantastic up forward and Tom Davey was marking at will giving young Lee a lesson.

Half time score was Ranges 8-10 (58) to Ports 5-6 (36).

At the start of the second half Ports wasted no time with a goal straight out of the centre to Masters, Ranges replied straight away through Kenny and McCallum.

Davey was trying to lift his team, running hard, taking grabs and young Llewelyn was showing signs of a big future in football.

By three-quarter time Ranges had control of the game, up by 39 points, 13-11 (89) to Ports 7-8 (50).

The last quarter was a training drill with Ranges putting on 10 goals to nothing.

Davey was moved into defence to help stem the flow of goals and Haines was competing well in the ruck for his first season combining well with Kwaterski .

Both Kenny boys had it on a string and Storic was very accurate in front of goal.

The final score for the match was Eastern Ranges 23-16 (154) to Ports 7-8 (50).

The best for Eastern Ranges were Ethan Kwaterski, Jack Kenny, Jess Kenny and Dean Storic.

For Ports, the best were Tom Davey, Brad Masters, Ash Masters and Tyronne Bishop.
