Young’s eight-goal haul seals Saints home ground victory

Eyre United 15-7 (97) def Lock 12-17 (89)

LOCK got off to a flyer kicking two goals in the first five minutes.

Young and Annesbury leveled the score soon after but Wright put the Roos back in front with a good snap goal and by quarter time Lock led by four points.

Quarter time ‘biffo’ gave the Saints a free before the bounce and they got the first goal through Liddell.

Poor skills, undisciplined play and resulting frees then gifted Lock a goal in reply.

Lock were playing great footy, particularly through Hetzel and Tiller, but were inaccurate, to lead 8-9 to Saints’ 8.1 at the break.

The game opened up in the third and the ball went end to end with both teams kicking lots of behinds.

Young kicked his fourth, fifth and sixth but Hetzel replied with two of his own.

Saints’ Dunn was put forward and had impact with plenty of shots on goal, slotting one before three-quarter time to increase Saints lead.

The arm wrestle continued in the last quarter. Lock slotted the first goal through two 50-metre penalties.

Neal for the Saints had a huge last quarter and kicked their first goal followed by Young’s seventh.

Siebert looked dangerous up forward and Habner kicked one to bring it back to two points but Young put the game away with a late goal.
