ELLISTON artists will make the most of the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival this year, with an exhibition called ‘Get Your Art On’ which is part of a growing focus on arts and culture in the town.
One of the organisers Jess Donovan said Elliston was a “vibrant and artistic community” so holding a SALA event this August made sense.
“We were asking ourselves why we haven’t been involved so we got a group together and decided to have the exhibition,” she said.
“It’s a collaboration to showcase the artists we have in the area.”
She said Elliston now had an art group which had gained some funding to run workshops for local artists on life drawing, jewellery making and macrame.
“There has been a bit of a void of organised activities so we thought it would be a good idea to provide something to do especially through winter,” Ms Donovan said.
Ms Donovan said the meetings or art sessions were also a way for local artists to communicate with each other about exhibitions and the art prizes open in other towns.
She said the SALA exhibition was open to artists of all mediums in the Elliston area and more information was available through the Elliston Visitor Information Centre.
