We have gone back to the 1980s for this week's Flashback Friday, back 34 years to view photos that made the pages of the Port Lincoln Times from July to September of 1984.
Do you recognize anyone from these photographs?
One of the biggest stories for Port Lincoln, and for Australian sport, happened during this period as Dean Lukin earned Australia gold in the men’s super heavyweight weightlifting at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
This was also the year Advance Australia Fair officially became Australia’s national anthem, Medicare was introduced and Bob Hawke was re-elected as Australian Prime Minister.
In sport Essendon defeated Hawthorn by 24 points to win the VFL premiership, Norwood won the SANFL premiership with a nine-point win against Port Adelaide and Australia competed in the aforementioned Los Angeles Olympics, winning 4 gold, 8 silver and 12 bronze medals.
