Opening their business 18 months ago, the Butterworths could not have seen that two of their beers would win some of the most prestigious awards for excellence in brewing.

Beer Garden Brewing beers, Cage Diver and Section 49, took out the top prize at the Royal Adelaide Beer and Cider Awards in Adelaide over the weekend, winning the Champion IPA and Champion Wheat awards respectively.

Their beers were put up against 54 brewers of all sizes at the Adelaide Beer and BBQ Festival on Friday, July 6, where the winners were announced.

Mark Butterworth said it was awesome to be recognised for the quality of their brewing.

“It’s been a lot of bloody hard work,” he said.

Janie Butterworth said it was their “attention to detail” which helped them receive the awards.

”To take out the champion IPA...that’s massive,” she said.

“Our focus has always been on quality.”

The pair said their next beer would be an even stronger version of an IPA: a double IPA, or an IIPA.

Head brewer Dan Treagus said it was a good feeling to bring recognised beers to his hometown.

“It helps put Port Lincoln on the map a bit more,” he said.

Mr Butterworth said the business would be focusing on the bar over the coming months to get it ready for summer.

The brewery also won silver medals for its Captain Porter and SALTY session beers and bronze medals for its Eyre Peninsula Ale and SALTY session beers.
