A group of local “Muppets” are returning to take on the SA Variety Bash again in 2018 and have raised more than $9000 so far.

Team Car Mit will be one of several cars taking on this year’s Bash, which will run from Adelaide to Port Lincoln between August 11 and 18.

Kym Dorward, Jeremy Hartwich and Leon Earl return to take on the bash in their Muppets themed car, while Tim Hartley replaces Jeff Bowers who had to pull out this year.

Mr Dorward said fundraising and preparation had been good, which included this year’s Long Lunch which led to more than $1000 raised.

The group was also helped recently by one of its sponsors, Cellarbrations in Coffin Bay who held a tasting event on Wednesday afternoon to raise funds.

“Cellarbrations and Coffin Bay General Store helped us greatly last year and are doing the same this year,” he said.

“It’s very beneficial, out of all sponsors we’ve got for the car, only one is not Port Lincoln based.

“Everyone in Port Lincoln who was approached was over the moon.”

Mr Dorward said despite one issue with the engine the car was ready for this year’s trip and everyone was looking forward to hitting the dirt this year after a largely wet bash last year.

He said this was his third year of taking part in the bash and as well as the dirt driving he enjoyed seeing what the money raised for Variety SA went towards.

“You don’t get to see what it does until you go on the bash and go to each venue,” he said.

Mr Dorward said there might be one one more auction happening to raise funds before the team departs for the bash.
