Local amateur boxers are ready to showcase their skills at this weekend’s first ever sanctioned amateur boxing event in Port Lincoln.

The Amateur Fight Night will take place this Saturday at the YMCA Leisure Centre with at least 13 bouts planned including three state title fights.

Amon Hazara from Adelaide defends his 64 kilogram championship against Ronnie Bell, Brandon Hart defends his 69kg championship against Jesse Jones from Whyalla and local boxer George Shepherd challenges Jordan Richards for the 75kg title.

Every other fight, barring exhibition fights, will be for belts sponsored by local businesses.

Williams Boxing Gym club manager and head coach Scottie Williams, who organised the event alongside Peter Williams, Renae Williams, Adrian Kraft and Louie Famiglietti, said all involved were excited.

“It’s a great opportunity for these local fighters to showcase their talents on home soil in front of family and friends,” he said.

“As a club we’re very proud of the coaching staff and every one of our fighters.”

Thomas Corston, one of the local fighters on the car, said it was good to compete in front of the home town crowd.

Tickets are still on sale from Lincoln Surf and the Grand Tasman Hotel, although VIP tables are sold out.

Doors open at 5pm.
