An impromptu ‘Freshman’s Day’ was held on Sunday rather than the programmed Competition Day for the Eyre Peninsula Showjumping Club (EPSJC).

By all accounts the day was thoroughly enjoyed by riders, horses, spectators and official representation of the club.

Those frolicking in the rain were Regan O’Brien, who rode two horses Bart and Sunny, Daisy Lewis was tempted to ride in the rain on Mr Temptation and Scott Davey on Striking Copper joined the fun.

Other riders included Catherine Southam on the ever reliable Phoenix, Angelica Sunset who rode admirably on Nelson, Mel Glover on Duke and Floyd, Brooke Spencer on Comet and BB and Andrew Mills on Knick Knack.

Alison Turnbull brought first timer Archie for the experience and both looked like they enjoyed going around poles on the ground between the wings, then over small crosses.

We look forward to seeing more of this pair in the future.

Our course builder was Gavin Traeger, Sue Heath was taking entries and judging.

Deb Henderson and Robyn May looked after the canteen side of things.

Keeping an eye on the proceedings in the arena were Gavin Traeger and Leon Hurrell.

A special thank you to those who packed up the jumps and wings, then took them to Port Lincoln for the show.

This is the first of the show circuit for Eyre Peninsula, this Sunday, August 12, followed by the Whyalla Show on August 18 and 19, Wudinna on September 15, Cleve on September 29 and Yallunda Flat on October 1.

The club’s 50th dinner will also be held Saturday, October 6 and will be closely followed by the culmination of the spring season at the Cummins Show on October 13 and Gav’s Day on Ocotber 14.
