Local Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Harry-Winston Cocks, was found Monday afternoon after almost two days on the run.
Alison Cocks and her family were out for dinner on Saturday night when a storm hit before they returned home to realise what had happened.
Mrs Cocks said they searched all weekend in the stormy weather for 10 and a half year old Harry.
“He’s our fur-baby, we knew he was scared of storms, but this is the first time he had run away.
“We were all beside ourselves once we realised, I was in tears until we found him, because at home he is barely one metre away from me at all times,” she said.
Simon King found Harry on his property on Monday afternoon after his own dog sniffed out the Cavalier’s hiding spot.
Mr King’s dog kept barking and eventually Harry was found hiding under shelving on the property.
The Cavalier had ran more than five kilometres from his Reevesby Court home to the Western Approach property.
The St Joseph’s School teacher said the family was very happy to have Harry back and that they could not thank Mr King or the community enough.
“When Mr King rang and said he had found Harry on his property I was over the moon, and so were the kids when I picked them up from school.
“If his dog hadn’t kept barking, he may not have been found, so we’re very lucky,” she said.
“The whole community helped us find him, my class even put up lost posters for him once they heard, so thank you to everyone in the community who helped us look and shared the Facebook post.”
