The Port Lincoln Show committee has been busy putting together another action-packed show to keep the country show tradition going.

The show is an opportunity to showcase local talent in our community whether it be chooks, ponies, needlework, gardening, artwork or if your talent lies elsewhere… the committee wants you to display it.

Show president Peter Hughes is looking forward to receiving a lot of entries in all sections in the pavilion, poultry pavilion and horse arena.

He is passionate about encouraging local people to showcase their works and says, “It’s a privilege each year to be surrounded by a diverse and inspirational group of volunteers working together around to create the best possible show for the community.”

“The whole idea of a community show is to feature produce and promote local talent.

That’s what the show is all about and hopefully we can keep it going for years to come,” Peter said.

The tradition will continue this year with various sections still going strong while others that have dropped away have had new sections introduced to take their place.

“Most of our sections are now convened by women and I would love more males to get involved,” Peter said.

Local schools will feature in the spectacular school art section showcasing the artistic talents of the future.

There will be rosettes and prize money awarded, judged from the top three trade, school or craft displays from the pavilion and showground area.

The men’s chocolate cake competition will be competitive again with a large field of exhibitors expected.

New to the show this year the best-dressed dog competition which will be judged at 11.30am along with three other categories.

The pets on parade competition will have prizes for the following categories; Pet and owner look-alike, best costume, best trick and most unique pet.

The Port Lincoln Garden Club will feature a display and sponsor the pot plant section with the “plant growing in soil in a bag” and the “plant in a boot or shoe” competition.

The beautiful display of orchids from the Port Lincoln orchid club in the show pavilion will again be spectacular.

“This year we've introduced a cash prize and trophy for the person who enters the most entries in the show,” Peter said.

There will be an exciting challenge in the showjumping arena with many up-and-coming junior riders and seasoned senior riders competing in nine classes for good prize money.

The Port Lincoln Show is one of the most prestigious events in the equestrian calendar as it is a warm-up for the Royal Adelaide Show to be held in three weeks.

Bubbles, balloons and roving entertainers will keep the show goers on their toes while the food court area will be entertained by local singers and musicians.

On the main stage local talent, school choirs, bands, musicians and singers will be on show.
