THE 10th birthday celebration of the Port Lincoln Sing Australia group at the Unity Hill Christian Centre was a great success on Saturday, August 18.
Invitations were distributed to everyone who had attended practices over the past 10 years, and the event was widely promoted.
Sixty members, past attendees and friends gathered for an afternoon of singing and socialising, with some travelling from Tumby Bay, Cummins and Whyalla to attend.
Members wore their uniforms, to be visible among the crowd, and a beautiful sound was made, as the group sang a selection of songs out of the ‘Songs around the piano’ books.
It was great to have live accompaniment by Bill Kannussaar.
They celebrated with presentation of 10 year badges to six of the Inaugural members, Fran Kotz, Ronda Pascoe, Pam Gotch, Sharyn Potts, Margaret Dixon and Margaret Christie.
There was also a presentation of life membership to a very surprised, but delighted Maxine Hage, and cutting of the birthday cake while ‘Happy Birthday’ was sung.
A beautiful spread of afternoon was provided for all to enjoy.
Throughout the afternoon lots of memories were also shared both in conversation and through a number of photo albums which had been kept over the last 10 years.
The Port Lincoln Sing Australia group practices on a fortnightly basis on Tuesday nights from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at Unity Hill, and is always on the look out for new members.
Sing Australia accepts that everyone can sing and it makes no judgement on how well that happens.
It is inclusive and welcoming of everyone and is about making happy connections with people from all walks of life and demographics within groups and through often impromptu performances.
You join with other members of Sing Australia to bring the joy of singing to the world around you and beyond.
Together the group promotes singing as an important natural emotional expression for the benefit of health and connections.
We make singing a widely acceptable activity for all people of all ages, performing gigs throughout the community.
