The Cummins Meat Store has won another award for its produce by taking out the second best full rasher bacon award in South Australia.
Receiving the award at the end of August, co-owner Glenn Buddle said the Australian Porkmark Bacon Award recognised how good the bacon is – something all the locals already know.
“We make it all in store, using good quality pork products from local Eyre Peninsula pork,” Mr Buddle said.
“We were surprised, we hadn’t done anything with bacon before but thought we’d give it a try.”
Mr Buddle said the bacon’s sweet and smoky taste was due to the unique mixture of redgum and other woods, a trade secret, used to smoke the bacon.
The store has previously been recognised in other awards for their sausages.
