Boston Football Club volunteer Sax Siegert has been recognised for his contributions to his club’s junior development with a nomination for an SANFL award.

Mr Siegert is one of eight finalists named for the Statewide Super Volunteer of the Year Award, recognising outstanding contributions to community football.

Providing 10 years of service to the club, Mr Siegert has aimed to grow junior player numbers as president of the junior teams.

He has also served in roles including Auskick organiser, team coach and junior committee member, and has acted as a mentor to younger club members to teach skills required for trainer and leadership roles.

Mr Siegert said being a finalist was unexpected but he felt honoured.

“I started with Auskick under 9s years ago and I’ve just kept in touch and have done bits and pieces for each grade ever since,” he said.

Mr Siegert said what he enjoyed most from his work at Boston was seeing the juniors grow and getting involved.

“It’s about getting the kids into sport and letting them enjoy what they do,” he said.

“Our juniors are really good but it’s about having a good environment.

“We have 20 kids each week at training and they enjoy coming out and having a kick.”

The award winner will be announced at the Magarey Medal and Hall of Fame presentation dinner at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday night.
