One of this year’s Tunarama Ambassador Quest entrants has planned a camping fundraiser at Mikkira Station, and is hoping the community can get on board to make it happen.
Miss Drakes Port Lincoln Darian Abraham has organised the Mikkira Camp event on October 6 to raise money for her chosen organisation, the Port Lincoln State Emergency Service.
Miss Abraham said this was the first event she had planned and wanted it to have a wide appeal.
“I wanted to do an event for every age group of people and thought it would be a fun thing for the family,” she said.
“I’ve heard not a lot of (local) people have been to Mikkira so it’s a good opportunity to see what Port Lincoln has to offer.”
Miss Abraham said gates opened at 2pm with people able to take part in activities or explore Mikkira Station.
Del Giorno’s and Catering on Eyre will provide meals and local group Rafikee will perform live music.
People are encouraged to bring their tents or swags to camp under the stars and wake up to a catered breakfast in the morning.
Miss Abraham said a minimum number of tickets were needed for the event to go ahead and it was raising money for a great cause, to purchase a defibrilator and forklift for the Port Lincoln SES.
However she said the event was well supported by local businesses, including Drakes Port Lincoln, Bakers Delight, Port Lincoln Food Warehouse, Port Lincoln Gourmet Meats, Raw Meat Store and Hage’s Bakehouse.
“So many businesses have come on board, I’m really thankful for that,” she said.
She said other events would take place later in the year, including a Halloween kids disco in November and a New Years Ball which she was doing with another entrant, as well as an Amazing Race event.
Tickets are on sale until September 30 and are available online at satickets.com.au/event/mikkira-station-camp-7866, at Del Giorno’s and the Raw Meat Store or by calling 0498 320 142.
