The race that stops the nation was on Tuesday and Port Lincoln residents dressed up for “a day at the races” to attend one of the several Melbourne Cup events taking place across the city.
The Port Lincoln Hotel held its annual Melbourne Cup luncheon at Sarin’s Restaurant with patrons dressed in their finest and enjoying a three course meal.
Down the road from the statue of three-time Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva is the Grand Tasman Hotel, where a cup lunch was held with patrons getting into the racing spirit.
The Zonta Club held a Melbourne Cup Day luncheon at Boston Bay Wines as a fundraising event for Mentally Fit EP and members were asked to wear a vintage hat.
Those who stopped to watch the race saw Streaky Bay born jockey Kerrin McEvoy ride Cross Counter to victory to win his third Melbourne Cup.
McEvoy previously won the cup on Brew in 2000 and Almandin in 2016.
