Museum thanks volunteers

Tumby Bay museum volunteers Pat Carr and Jean Brock received Distinguished Service Awards from National Trust SA for providing exceptional service to the museum.

Museum chairperson, David Brand, outlined the women’s achievements and said the National Trust SA normally only gave one of the awards to the branch each year , but this year decided both were deserving of an acknowledgement.

Ms Brock, who will be 90 in December, has been a museum volunteer for 59 years which included a year as assistant treasurer and 49 years as treasurer.

She initially began cataloging, assisted with displays and opened the museum to visitors on her rostered days for more than 50 years.

Ms Carr began volunteering at the museum 16 years ago. For three days a week she greets visitors, and accepts historical items and catalogues them.

Her knowledge of the history relating to items in the museum is astonishing and valuable for visitors.

Both received a letter of congratulations from Member for Flinders Peter Treloar, National Trust Patron, and from those present.

Thanks must go to June Hedley for submitting the application for the awards.
