Port Lincoln netballer off to Indigenous Championships

Local netballer Jakoda Skinn-Buzzacott has been selected in the South Australian Outback team to compete at the Australian Indigenous Netball Championships next year.

Jakoda began playing netball seven years ago in Port Augusta before she moved to Port Lincoln and began playing for Boston Netball Club five years ago.

The 14-year-old said she was excited for the opportunity to travel to Melbourne in January to represent the regional state team.

“I play mostly centre, wing attack or wing defence,” she said on her preferred court position.

“I play netball, basketball and softball, but I don’t have a favourite.”

Jakoda was chosen after two trial days in Port Augusta and an Adelaide carnival in November.

The Navigator College student said she was looking forward to competing and having fun with some of the other players she met during trials.

The Australian Indigenous Netball Championships will be played from January 8 to 13 in Craigieburn, 29 kilometres north of Melbourne.

Those wishing to help get her to the championships can donate to Facebook fundraiser ‘Help Jakoda get to Melbourne’.
