The Riviera Port Lincoln Tuna Classic has changed hands for the 2019 meet, with Russell Bianco and Gabriella Gabbana taking over from Team Teakle.
Peter Teakle and his team had managed the event for the last 12 years, helping to mold it into a premier catch and release fishing competition.
Mr Bianco said himself and Ms Gabbana were grateful for the opportunity to further the three-day event and were committed to maintaining its standard.
“I’ve competed at least six or seven times and I absolutely love it,” he said.
“I’ve been a big fan for many years and it’s perfect for us as we love Port Lincoln and fishing.”
He said in 2019 scores announcing the winners would not be radioed over as boats returned to shore on the last day, instead they would be announced at the presentation.
“We want to try and increase numbers by promoting the event across social media and through advertising,” he said.
Winners will be awarded in several categories including juniors, female, male and small-fry, but Mr Bianco said in addition to a trophy, a prize would be given to junior winners to encourage entries.
The event will take place from March 22 to 24 with about 20 boats entering on average each year.
