CUP CONTENDER: The Simon Drewitt trained Lady Conquistador burst away from the field over the final 100 metres drawing away for a big win in the benchmark 80 race over 1960 metres at the Port Lincoln races on Friday.

The Port Lincoln Cup Prelude this Sunday has received 13 nominations with the two mares entered in the event expected to dominate betting in the $25,000-race over 1750 metres.

The Darryl Carrison trained Bramfield has won four races this season.

She looks ready to step up to this distance for the first time in her career going on the way she found the line last start over 1390 metres.

She is also nominated for Morphetville on Saturday so keep an eye on acceptances.

Lady Conquistador has relished stepping up to the longer trips for Simon Drewitt; there looks to be a sense of timing about this runner.

Burnro and Neva Doubt Us have placed in a Port Lincoln Cup so they are more than capable.

Dance Of Heroes is expected to improve sharply up in distance.

Tips: Bramfield, Lady Conquistador, Dance Of Heroes.

Flying handicap 1000m

With Classy Jack and Ruby’s Reward to set a cracking pace this may well set the race up for the closers.

Tolstoy and Artful Rambler are racing well and, if they are within striking distance on the home turn, can win.

Bellomo should be ready to peak now third up, look for him steaming down the centre of the track.

Write off Hank’s Nephew and Debeersonus at your own peril.

Benchmark 64 1390m

This race could possibly be split given 21 nominations over the 1390 metres.

The John Dunn-trained Chase Suprano has been a model of consistency, stick with her.

Purrfect Kisses and Ash Road come off solid wins and will have no trouble measuring up here.

Ticket To Paris drops in grade and Mirthdale is better than his last start.

What A Shock is an interesting addition to the Darryl Carrison yard, can he sneak into the Port Lincoln Cup in a fortnights time with victory here?

Benchmark 60 1750m

Galaxy Falls was competitive prior to Christmas over these journeys against better opposition. He will be a light weight cup prospect.

Hand To Hand and Bam are next best and keep an eye on Already Taken who is the value runner.

Benchmark 60 1210m

Avora Sun takes on older horses here but the Shylie Williams-trained filly is capable of acquitting herself. She may cop more pressure early which is the slight concern.

Kingson and Mr Liberty are the class runners and command respect.

2YO 1210m

Artful Ambition did everything right on debut butWotuwant may be able to turn the tables out to the six furlongs.  He's Abel is the other winning chance if his mind is on the job.

Maiden 1390m

No bet race from a punting perspective but perhaps Johns Strategy might be worth following up on after his last start defeat as a short priced favourite.

Barb Wire has scope to improve with racing.

Maiden 1000m

Toffee Bell and Cry Out Loud to fight this one out. Mandala for third.

Final fields and race starting times declared on Thursday.
