Following the successful change from a breakfast to a brunch last year, this year’s International Women’s Day event will again be a brunch.
The Zonta club of Port Lincoln has all the plans in place for this year’s event on Saturday, March 16 from 9am for a 9.30am start in the ball room at the Port Lincoln Hotel.
Guest Speaker will be Julie Monis-Ivett OAM, who is a board director and founding member of the Birthing Kit Foundation of Australia.
Ms Monis-Ivett was instrumental in the development of the Zonta Club of Adelaide Hills Birthing Kit project, which, together with Dr Joy O’Hazy, she started back in 1999.
She has travelled to Africa to see first hand how beneficial the kits are in assisting a safe and hygienic birthing experience for rural and remote women.
Zonta clubs around the country make up the kits as a service to women and girls with the Port Lincoln club having participated over many years.
The Port Lincoln Zonta club is very appreciative of the support from Bendigo Bank, the Port Lincoln Hotel, Adventure Bay Charters, Jane Hutchinson and other local businesses that have donated raffle prizes.
A voucher for a family to ‘Swim with the Sea Lions’ and a large painting by Ms Hutchinson will be auctioned while other prizes will be ‘the luck of the draw’.
Other highlights of the morning will be the presentation of two local Women of Achievement awards and celebration of the 100th birthday of Zonta International and the 25th birthday of the Port Lincoln Zonta Club.
The proceeds from ticket sales will go to Yarredi Services to assist with replacing very worn furniture in their crisis accommodation and the raffle money will be used to purchase materials for the birthing kits.
The kits will be made up at a working bee at a date yet to be decided.
Tickets are $45 and can be purchased online at www. satickets.com.au/event8680 or by contacting Chris on 0428 830 256. Tables of 10 are available.
