Port Lincoln Home and Community Aged Care has taken home the 2019 South Australia and Northern Territory Team Award in recognition of their innovation in aged care services.

The team won the award at the Leading Age Services Australia Excellence in Age Services Awards and will represent SA/NT in the category at the national event in October.

Senior customer service coordinator Leanne Johnston said the organisation aimed to keep people over the age of 65 at home for as long as possible through support and care.

"Our team's quite innovative and dynamic, we often get together as a team and discuss new ways of  providing our services," she said.

Ms Johnston said the team always tried to think outside the box in terms of new service options and two such ways were by taking clients fishing or to the leisure centre.

"It's amazing to be recognised in both South Australia and the Northern Territory," she said.

"To receive the award it feels sort of empowering, it gives us a sense that we are doing the right thing and delivering a good service."

The award recognised an organisation that worked within the community to create an environment that developed an innovate service for older people to improve the aged services experience.
