Low fees for novice golfers

Lincoln Rural Supplies sponsored a stableford round played by 73 men including Chris Dunne (Howlong) and 10 women.

Adie Fraser's 38 was best for women with runner up Janet Whittaker on 35.

For men Chris Lack, 39, counted out Jayden Lloyd to win A grade.

In B grade the winner was Jake Murray, 39, from Mark Cooper, 38, after a count back. The score of the day was C grade winner Kevin Reidy's 43.

Runner up Anthony Manuel with 42 could consider himself unlucky as could Patrick Andison, 42, and first run down.

Other run downs went to Graeme Parker, 39, and Dan Townsend, Brian Henson, Colin Gamble and Greg Hughes all 38.

Steve Thomson eagled the fourth as well as scoring a birdie on the sixth.

Others to score birdies on par threes were Patrick Andison, Greg Hughes, Haydn Myers, Ben Abley, Chris Dunne and Grant Woods.

Thursday, April 11

Nineteen ladies played a par competition, sponsored by Hunts Fuels and Slape Crash Repairs.

Winner of the day was Janet Whittaker, who broke her handicap by scoring +3; runner-up with +1 was Deb Sykes.

Run-downs went to Helen George, square, and Val Sharrad and Sue Cotton, both one down.

Wednesday, April 10

The Grand Tasman Hotel sponsored the men's mid-week stableford competition and 66 players rolled up, including three visitors, from Coffin Bay, Cummins and Deniliquin NSW.

Benji Sellen had the score of the day and his 42 points in A grade accounted for runner-up Dan Townsend with 39; Dan could have been closer - his 75 off the stick included two out-of-bounds penalties.

B grade was won by Bob Ford with a smooth-as-shiraz 40 points, winning from Greg Barry 39.

Brian Smith won C grade with 41 points from Graeme Parker on 38 and rundown awards across all grades went to visitor Andrew Pietsch 38, and Colin Clark, Leon Newman, Rick Kolega and Bill Ford, all on 37 points.

Par-three birdies came from Dan Townsend, Andrew Pietsch, Greg Cotton, Rodney Bird, Adam Hage, Geoff Will, Kevin Reidy and Cliff Taylor.

Sunday, April 7

Sunday stableford welcomed 11 men and seven ladies, with Peter Watherston winning the men's event with 40 points from Lance Appleby on 38.

Jennifer Williams counted out Liz Weatherspoon for the ladies' section; both had 35 points.

The club has introduced a new 12-month trial membership category for novice golfers who are yet to join a Club, at a cost of $250 for the year.
