The 2019 SALT Festival begins on Friday

The 2019 SALT Festival will kick off on Friday afternoon with a launch event at the Salt Shaker before diving into a range of creative shows, acts, exhibits and workshops for the next 10 days.

The free launch event will include the opening of Joseph Puglisi's 'Coastal Eyre' exhibit and the 2019 poster winner/designer Leigh O'Malley's 'O'Malley at Salt' exhibit.

SALT coordinator Sophie Quigley said the children and family friendly section in the program would help families navigate the festival and had been expanded based on feedback from last year.

"I'm very excited, it's really cool to see it coming together and all falling into place," she said on tomorrow's opening.

"There really is something for everyone, drop by and try something new and show your support to our contributors in the process."

This year's event marks the third time the festival has been held by Southern Eyre Arts and the SALT team.

The launch on April 19 begins at 4pm at the Salt Shaker at 1/1 King Street (on the corner of Tasman Terrace and Eyre Street) and as a licensed venue will have drinks and coffee available.

Southern Eyre Arts chairperson Jack Ritchie said the launch event gave the community and visitors an opportunity to discuss what was happening with the SALT team over the festival and to plan accordingly.

"It's a fantastic way for people to catch up with the feature artists," Mr Ritchie said.

"It will give people a chance to get an overview of what's happening in the festival and will help them connect with the committee to gather some insight into the next 10 days."
