Flashback Friday 1983 | GALLERY | Port Lincoln Times

It is the end of the working week and once again we go back to past editions of the Port Lincoln Times for the weekly Flashback Friday.

Today we go back 36 years to see who made the pages of the Port Lincoln Times between April and June in 1983.

Who can you recognise from this week's flashback?

This was the year the late Bob Hawke was elected Prime Minister of Australia after winning the federal election against incumbent Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser.

It was also the year Australia II made history by winning the America's Cup and ending the New York Yacht Club's 132-year stranglehold on the prized sailing event.

On the ARIA charts the top single was the comedy hit 'Australiana' by Austen Tayshus with top songs including 'Flashdance ... What a Feeling' by Irene Cara, 'Up Where We Belong' by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes and 'Karma Chameleon' by Culture Club.
