Port Lincoln Primary School held a Wear Blue for Autism Awareness Day on Friday and raised more than $300 for Kaleidoscope in the process.

Students and staff wore blue as part of autism awareness and year 3 teacher Emma Theakstone said a parent approached the school and initiated the event.

She said at first count the school had raised $308.85 for Kaleidoscope, who had been putting together care packages for local children with autism.

"Some classes have had power of peers powerpoints, discussions in class or watched youtube videos today and in the lead up to the event to help raise awareness," she said.

Ms Theakston said the event helped to start conversations with the students on autism and was an opportunity to show that everyone's differences should be celebrated.

She said Kaleidoscope was chosen by the school to give the day's money as it was hosting a subsidised workshop for parents and teachers on helping behaviourally challenged students do well.
