West Coast Swimming Club has seven members off to represent South Australia at the School Sport Australia Championships in Melbourne in July.

Bryce Hammond is representing the SA team for the third time at the school competition but for the rest of the local swimmers it's their first time at the national carnival.

Swimmers Bryce, Alinta Dingwall, Tahni Kelsh, Oscar Dingwall, Asta Mickan and Tyler Davidson will compete in the 10 to 12 years event from July 31 to August 2.

Tyler will compete in the 100 metre breaststroke and butterfly, and his favourite event the 50 metre backstroke.

I am hoping to get some personal bests and possibly make a final.

The St Joseph's year 5 student trains four times a week and said he was very excited to compete at his first national school meet.

"I was in a swimming lesson and I saw some of my friends doing squad and it grew from there," he said.

"I am hoping to get some personal bests and possibly make a final."

The 11-year-old said the coaching at WCSC had helped him improve and develop his skills.

Angus Waller will compete in the senior school championships (13 to 19 years event) from July 27 to 31.
