Croppos scrape in for win

DIVISION ONE

Croppos 11 (42) def Gladiators 10 (37)

IN a very tight contest Croppos scraped home in the last match of the night to put themselves into second.

Croppos got their nose in front from the first round through Huey Rosalia over Russell Fordham, Adam Butterworth over Angelika Sederstrom, Jim Casanova over Bill Broughton and Dan Mengis over Cheryl King.

The tide turned in the second round with Gladiators picking up four wins as Bill Broughton redeemed himself winning a great five set match over Ralph Sandford.

The three doubles were fought long and hard but Croppos claimed two for a slender lead.

Croppos were first to score in the final round with Ralph Sandford taking a brilliant five setter over Cheryl King, before Gladiators hit back with two through Broughton and Marcal.

Croppos grabbed the next game with Serena Fong coming from two sets down to get up over Angelika Sederstrom in five sets, while Russell Fordham levelled the scores with his victory over Adam Butterworth, leaving the last deciding match on the table.

Huey Rosalia claimed the win by defeating Lester Barnes in straight sets, in a fantastic contest.

Dodgers 15 (52) def Lions 6 (25)

Dodgers remain in third with a solid win.

Games were evenly spread in the opening round with Lions taking great wins with Kody Rosalia over John Folkman, Nathan Fong over Marc Haning in five sets and Vic Ellul over Andre Greyvenstein in four sets.

Dodgers stepped it up in the second round through Jonathon Story, Max Williams and Greyvenstein while Lions' Fong came from behind to win a thriller 16-14 in the fifth set over Darren Atkins.

Dodgers, holding a lead of two going into the doubles, took all three, leaving Lions the difficult task of winning all remaining matches.

Andre Greyvenstein put it all out of reach for the Lions when he defeated Matt Beckmann in a brilliant game 17-15, 12-10, 13-11, 11-9.

Marc Haning and Darren Atkins added further scores to cement a great victory.

Panthers 12 (47) def Tigers 9 (29)

Top of the table Panthers remain the only undefeated team while Tigers sit in fifth.

Tigers got away to the better start collecting four wins in the opening round with Geoff Nottle causing an upset over Panthers number one Daniel Challinger in five close sets.

Joseph Harris followed suit claiming Tyler Ebert in four and Lance Barnett won a great match over Ellen Challinger in five. For Panthers Wade Gray and Geoff McLachlan were the only ones to score.

Panthers were shocked into action to win four of their own in the next round and level the scores.

With the doubles up for grabs, Panthers won all three for a handy lead.

In the final round Peter Lee was first to score for Tigers over Ellen Challinger in five sets and Rodney Scharfe came from behind to defeat Geoff McLachlan in five while for Panthers Wade Gray had a great win over Geoff Nottle and Tyler Ebert sealed the victory over Simon Strycharski.

DIVISION TWO

Croppos 7 (21 ) def Gladiators 5 (19)

Croppos jumped over Gladiators into second.

Games were evenly spread in the first round as Croppos' Josh Butterworth defeated Antoinette Vidovich in four sets and Wayde Heidenreich had a real battle with young Jack Barnett to win 17-15 in the fifth set, while for Gladiators David Hall defeated Bob Gibbes in five sets and Callum Guidera toppled Dave Sherry in straight sets.

Doubles were shared at one apiece to keep the scores level at the halfway mark. Croppos put their best foot forward from here reeling off three wins for a slender lead. The final doubles round was shared but Croppos were over the line in a close one.

Best: Croppos: Wayde Heidenreich (undefeated); Gladiators: Callum Guidera.

Dodgers 9 (26) def Lions 3 (9)

Dodgers are top of the table by percentage after they ran over bottom side Lions.

Dodgers had the better start claiming three wins through Ethan Richardson, Marene and Andre Greyvenstein while Kelly VanDoorn won one for Lions over Bev Atkins in four sets.

Dodgers combined stronger in the doubles to take a five to one lead.

It was more of the same in the second round of singles for Dodgers while for Lions Jamie Crawford won over Bev Atkins in three tight sets.

Doubles were shared in the last round but unfortunately it was game over.

Tigers 8 (25) def Panthers 4 (19)

Tigers jumped over Panthers into fourth with this week's win.

Games were evenly spread in the opening round as Tigers' Rob Simon defeated Ernie Bauer in a brilliant five-set match backed up by Gary Weetra over Nellie Heron in four while Panthers' Jayden Townsend had to work hard for his win over Julieanne Simon in five long sets as did Kiarna Letton to defeat her brother Kynan.

Doubles went down to the wire but Tigers won both for handy lead.

Tigers stepped it up in the next round. Kynan Letton shows improvement every week and recorded another win over Nellie Heron. Rob Simon collected a hard fought victory over Jayden Townsend in five while for Panthers Ernie Bauer beat Julieanne Simon.

Doubles were shared in the final round but it was too little too late for Panthers.
