When it comes to paint, Daphne and Crowies Paints mean business

Daphne Crowhurst, managing director of fast-expanding local retailer Crowies Paints, has been named Telstra's SA Business Woman of the Year for 2019.

South Australian Daphne has transformed the company from a traditional family-owned operation to a successful franchise that's growing across the state and around Australia.

With a Crowies store on Porter Street, Port Lincoln, her commitment to helping consumers and tradies alike to find just the right paint for their needs is really paying off.

"We've got a real 'sky's the limit' culture that's built around a philosophy of honesty and enjoyment," Daphne said, "and we also value being part of the local economy."

"It's a way of working that's great for customers, staff and suppliers - and it's definitely good for business too."

Daphne added that Crowies Paints' in-depth expertise of paint and painting was the vital point of difference between her business and the DIY warehouses.

"Our marketing story is very simple; we say to customers 'we know paint'. That's why they keep returning to us, and recommending us, because of our trusted knowledge and competitive prices."

Telstra's Jenni Barnett said that Daphne's courage to innovate had really paid off for Crowies.

"She's successfully taking on large competitors and disrupting the entire industry," Jennis said.

"Her analytical mind and community-orientated endeavours have been critical to her success so far."
