Graham McConnell has become the second recipient from the Lower Eyre Peninsula District to receive a SAPSASA life membership in recognition of his contribution to school sport.

His involvement began at Port Lincoln Primary School in 1979, before he became SAPSASA president of the LEP district from 2001 to 2008 and convener from 2011 to 2018.

In 1998 he helped reintroduce the district's athletics day, which has been a key event for the last 21 years.

Mr McConnell followed LEP district's Anna Walpole's footsteps and became the district's second life member at a pre-carnival meeting for the SAPSASA State Football Carnival on June 16.

"It's great to be honoured and recognised," he said.

"I love any sport and it's good to give kids the opportunity to do sports outside of just the mainstream ones so they all get the SAPSASA experience."

Over the years he has managed and coached football, cross country, soccer, orienteering, rugby league and swimming teams.
