Volunteers at the Port Lincoln Meals on Wheels will receive their long service medals later this month.
Doreen Blewitt and Fay Ween have been volunteers with the service for 20 years, and say they are inseparable especially when volunteering.
"We're joined at the hip...when we don't (deliver meals) together our husbands fill in," said Mrs Blewitt.
The long-time friends were thinking of someway to help and Mrs Blewitt suggested Meals on Wheels, after also getting involved with the Red Cross and the pathology run.
She said she didn't regret anything of volunteering, but said it really affects her when people die, and she doesn't see them on the run anymore.
Mrs Ween said it didn't feel like it had been 20 years, but said they had to do something rather than sitting at home.
"Sometimes we're the only people they see that day," she said of delivering meals to the elderly.
"We brighten their day up...at least we try to anyway."
Mrs Blewitt said it had filled one part of their lives, when they weren't line dancing together.
Meals on Wheels chairperson Julie Low said another volunteer Marg Vaney had also been committed to the service for 40 years and would also receive her badge later in the month.
She said Meals on Wheels now need more help than ever on the committee.
"New volunteers are always welcome as our service relies on volunteers to deliver meals, and just as importantly, for others to become involved with the running and management of the Port Lincoln Meals on Wheels branch," she said.
The branch currently has about 90 volunteers, and Mrs Low said while this was vital, a greater commitment to management roles was needed.
She said if roles such as the client service coordinator and volunteer coordinator weren't filled, others may have to take on two roles or head office in Adelaide would take on the extra role.
Mrs Low said filling these roles locally was essential to maintaining face-to-face contact with the community.
The long service awards will be held on Tuesday July 23 at 11am at the Grand Tasman Hotel, where all volunteers have been invited to attend the presentation, AGM and luncheon.
