Port Lincoln Aboriginal Health Services put on the annual NAIDOC Week Community Cookout at the Mallee Park Wombat Pit on Wednesday, which was well supported despite some unfavourable weather.

The annual event which has been a fixture of NAIDOC Week in Port Lincoln involved PLAHS preparing foods including stew and wombat while Centacare Port Lincoln provided a barbecue and a morning tea area was organised by Port Lincoln Red Cross.

Wet and windy weather prompted children's activities such as a bouncy castle and sumo suits to be moved indoors to the Mallee Park clubrooms.

Port Lincoln Aboriginal Health Service health promotions officer and NAIDOC Week Committee member Morgan Hirschausen said the weather was not ideal but the event was well supported with a good turnout.

NAIDOC Week continues Thursday with the elders lunch at the Grand Tasman Hotel from 11.30am, followed by a quiz/trivia night at the Mallee Park Clubrooms on July 12 from 6.30pm and the football club will host the NAIDOC Ball from 7pm. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased from PLACC.
