Eyre Peninsula tops division two in Brett Ogle Cup

A group of young Eyre Peninsula golfers had a good showing recently by finishing as division two winners in the Brett Ogle Cup last week.

The Golf SA Brett Ogle Cup Matchplay Competition was held at Naracoorte on July 9, 10 and 11.

The Eyre Peninsula team consisted of Brock Wise, Rubin Thompson and Ned Linton from Port Lincoln as well as Sam Pearce from Lock and Thomas Klingberg from Kimba.

The boys travelled with Brett and Nadine Pearce, Richard Linton and Trevor Thompson on the Monday ready for the competition to start on Tuesday.

All the players in the eight teams from country districts around the state played a qualifying round on the Tuesday afternoon to establish whether they were in division one or division two.

The top scorers, Southern, South East, Murraylands and Northern went into division one.

Eyre Peninsula finished in fifth place - missing out on division one by one stroke - joining Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and the Riverland in division two.

Archie Fitzgerald of Cummins qualified for SAPSASA and Larry Fitzgerald, also of Cummins will be ready for next year.

In the first match on the Wednesday, Eyre Peninsula beat Yorke Peninsula four matches to one.

In the afternoon they played Riverland and had a comfortable five to zero win.

On the Thursday morning the Eyre Peninsula boys took out division two by defeating Mid North five to zero.

All praise should go to the boys who can be proud of the way they presented themselves in cold and wet conditions on the excellently presented Naracoorte course and a well done to Nadine Pearce for being an excellent manager.

A big thank you to Brett Pearce, Richard Linton and Trevor Thompson, who provided great back up help and advice.
