Dance teacher to reflect on 40-year career at arts council AGM

Long time Port Lincoln dance teacher Odette Schuurmans-Pearson will reflect on 40 years teaching dance on Eyre Peninsula at the Port Lincoln Arts Council's annual general meeting on Wednesday, August 21.

Born and raised in Port Lincoln, Ms Schuurmans-Pearson spent some years in Adelaide before returning to Eyre Peninsula.

GUEST SPEAKER: Odette Schuurmans-Pearson.

GUEST SPEAKER: Odette Schuurmans-Pearson.

She has taught many students over this time, with the main styles taught being Cecchetti classical ballet, modern theatre dance, jazz and tap dancing. In the earlier years, she also taught European national dance.

Ms Schuurmans-Pearson travelled to Cummins, Cleve and Tumby Bay for some time, before the number of classes in Port Lincoln and family life made it difficult to continue.

Even after 40 years she still finds it a privilege to teach and get to know so many students and their families.

The yearly concerts presented by her students are one of the highlights on the performing arts calendar in Port Lincoln.

The meeting is on Wednesday, August 21, 7pm upstairs at the Port Lincoln Hotel. Everyone welcome.

The committee is always looking for new members and anyone interested in joining is welcome.
