Winter weather puts dampener on golf numbers

Saturday, August 10

A closer to normal field of 66 men and seven ladies played a stableford event, sponsored by the Port Lincoln Hotel.

In the men's section, A grade winner was Josh Hausler with 40 points which was also score of the day, from Tate Secker on 39.

Ryan Cottrell won B grade with 38, well ahead of the rest of the field; Juri Berzins was second with 33 points.

The C grade winner was David Graetz 37, from Patrick Andison 35.

Run-downs went to Shaun Thomas 37, Cliff Taylor 34 and Dylan Bell, Geoff Nottle and Andrew Stevens, all with 33 points.

Nearest the pin (NTP) winners were Ben Sellen, Josh Hausler, Ryan Lack, Adam Sullivan, Rex Bichard and Luke Murray.

There were seven par-three birdies on the day, from Tate Secker, Rex Bichard (twice), Ryan Lack, Wayne Smith, Tony Dragun and Luke Murray.

The ladies' winner was Cynthia Thompson with 29, on a count-back from Cindy Carr.

Thursday, August 8

Wintry weather greeted the girls, with only four taking to the links and only playing nine holes.

The daily sponsors were Initial Reaction and Kallinyalla Garden Centre and the winners were Kay Freeth with 15 stableford points and Elaine Pierik on 14.

Wednesday, August 7

With continual and steady rain all day, play was wisely called off, at the discretion of the match committee.

As well as receiving welcome watering, the course benefited from the lack of traffic on the day, and the level of the dam rose considerably.

Monday, August 5

Seventeen players also played in the Monthly Seniors' Day, with Andy Smith the winner with 34 stableford points from Bob Sorenson 31, on a count-back.

The ladies' winner was Elaine Pierik with 29 points on a count-back and Brian Smith won the front nine with 19 and Mike Munro was the back nine winner with 16 points.

Sunday, August 4

Seventeen golfers hit off in the Sunday Stableford competition, with Matt Molloy winning with 36 points, from Dave Wallace 34.
