The Port Lincoln community has rallied to fundraise almost $17,000 in two days for the Endean family who recently lost son, brother and father Tom.

The Facebook page fund, started by close friend Damien King, will help go towards funeral costs, and has raised $16,645.

The funeral is set to be held tomorrow, Friday August 23.

Mr King said he began the fund to help the family out.

"I know it's a cost no one expects, so it was sort of the least I could do," he said.

"It's the community that's done everything, not me...it's something that's going to help."

Mr King said when he set the fund up, the automatic goal of $200 was reached within a couple of minutes and more than $10,000 was reached in the first eight hours.

"We had to keep raising the goal," he said.

"Everyone thanked me but I've done nothing...I've done nothing that Tom wouldn't have done for me."

He said Tom was always there to help those around him, even if he didn't know them, and often used his job as a concreter to help out.

"Tom was the kind of guy who would be there for anyone," he said.

"He was the first one to help you out but the last one to ask for help."
