WINNER: School-based Apprentice of the Year Sophie Nuske.

Sheringa student Sophie Nuske was named the SA Training Awards School-based Apprentice of the Year on Friday.

The Cleve Area School student has undertaken an apprenticeship with neighbours Jennifer and Bill Norsworthy for the past two years, as part of her Certificate III agriculture course.

After finishing school this year, Sophie plans to find work with a livestock adviser or wool broker to gain more experience, before eventually returning to the family farm.

Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni congratulated the six winners.

"I have no doubt that many of these young people will be owning their own businesses and hiring apprentices and trainees of their own in the years to come."
