Port Lincoln fire caused by barbecue

An estimated $15,000 of damage has been caused after a barbecue caught fire at a private property in Port Lincoln early Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to a Hill Place residence just before 4am Thursday morning, with two MFS crews responding along with police and SA Ambulance also on the scene.

The fire was controlled within five minutes and was extinguished before major damage could be done to the house.

The residents were uninjured however an estimated $15,000 in damage was caused by the fire.

The MFS and police did a brief investigation after the fire was extinguished and believe the possible cause to have been still hot oil from its use earlier in the evening with the fire travelling down the rubber hose to the gas cylinder which was still on.

The fire was not treated as suspicious.
