Festive season plans for Port Lincoln

FESTIVE displays, an upcycled tree building competition and a pageant will see the streets of Port Lincoln awash with Christmas spirit this year.

A new approach to the Christmas and New Year's festivities supported by the Port Lincoln City Council in partnership with the Port Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and Tourism is planned to connect community this year.

In a close collaboration with local businesses a series of events are planned for community to get involved in to enjoy, and also attract and encourage tourism this year and beyond.

"The events planned are designed to encourage the involvement of all community groups, clubs, individuals and businesses which will ensure the success of the season, while continuing to strengthen our connected community," Port Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and Tourism chairperson Jack Ritchie said.

"This is about how business and community can work together to celebrate Christmas and New Year in Port Lincoln and we invite sponsors, businesses and community groups to get involved," he said.

The range of activities include an upcycled Christmas Tree Building competition, with young people and community groups including schools, kindergartens, childcare centers, and playgroups are encouraged to register and put their skills and talents to work with a range of prizes for winning entries.

Local business can participate in the Business Christmas display competition to decorate their businesses, encourage shopping locally and bring joy to shoppers in the lead up to Christmas.

A Christmas pageant culminating in music and family activities is planned for Sunday, December 22 at 1.30pm to run from the Lincoln Hotel to the Foreshore lawns with cash prizes on offer for the best floats, and costumes.

A sub-committee of the Port Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and Tourism is working to include music in the main streets, CBD decorations to add value to Raine and Horne's residential Christmas Lights competition, Carols on the Foreshore and Port Lincoln City Band Christmas playouts.

On New Year's Eve Port Lincoln will bring in 2020 with a bang with free family fun activities on the foreshore in the afternoon into evening leading into two fireworks displays.
