Port Lincoln Old Style Dance Group is celebrating 47 years of success this Saturday, October 12 with a birthday ball featuring a live band.

The group is also celebrating the 65th anniversary of Docking's Band, which will play at the event.

Dance group member Rosemary Rendell said there was lots on offer at the event.

"Forty seven years ago, active parents encouraged the birth of the Port Lincoln Old Style Dance Group which has continued without a break, to hold dances in Port Lincoln and surrounding districts," she said.

"Supported by talented musicians and enthusiastic dancers, the group will celebrate its 47th birthday on Saturday, October 12, in the Anglican Parish Hall Port Lincoln," she said.

Mrs Rendell said the event would have Docking's Band play along with raffles, a shared supper, and a birthday cake.

"Bob Docking has clocked up an amazing 65 years of playing and continues to delight dancers and hearers alike," she said.

Dance group member John Dinham said the band had played for the group for a long time.

"They've been playing for 65 years," he said.

"They play down here once a month...years ago they'd be playing three times a week."

Mr Dinham said the dance group had always had lots of members and had never dispelled since it was formed in 1972.

"It's always been going strong," he said.

"But in the last few years it has dropped off."

Mr Dinham said the event this Saturday would run from 8pm to 12am.
