Two tourism award winners

TWO Port Lincoln-based tourism businesses were named the best in their categories at the 2019 South Australian Tourism Awards on Friday night.

For the second year in a row Calypso Star Charters was awarded the RAA Voters' Choice Tourism Award for experience or service, recognising its commitment to service excellence.

Calypso also won the Tourist Attraction category and received bronze in Adventure Tourism.

Adventure Bay Charters won the Adventure Tourism category.

Adventure Bay Charters, Calypso Star Charters and two other Eyre Peninsula businesses also received silver and bronze medals.

Maralinga Tours won the Qantas Award for Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tourism and doi's Ocean Front Apartments received silver in the Self Contained Accommodation and Perlubie Sea Eco Villas silver in the Hosted Accommodation category.

Most category winners will go on to represent South Australia at the national awards in Canberra next year.

Tourism Industry Council chief executive officer, Shaun de Bruyn congratulated the region's award winners.

"The awards were judged alongside strict criteria making it a highly regarded accolade that celebrates the innovation, passion and dedication of our tourism operators," Mr de Bruyn said.

"As a state we should be proud of our award winners and the hard work they put forward to deliver unique and memorable visitor experiences."
