Tennis ladders taking shape

The Port Lincoln Tennis Association had a full program of tennis this week with the ladders across all the competitions starting to take shape before the Christmas break.

Green, Orange and Red Ball Zambrero encouragement award winners were Sam, Pearson, Ashlyn, Briley and Ray.


One of the most entertaining matches of the round was between two of the front running teams, Nadal and Stosur. It came down to the wire.

Stosur 6 sets 50 games def Nadal 6 sets 42 games

In the opening round Thomas and Cindy Cabot were on fire, winning the opening set for their team.

This was backed up by Hunter Smith and Chase Raleigh who were too consistent for their opponents.

Stosur got their first set on the board through Allyce Fatchen and Hunter Gray.

Kodah Young and Sam Lydeamore dominated their match and gave their team a one-game advantage going into the singles.

Nadal got off to a great start with Sally Cabot in sensational form, winning her match in convincing style.

Hunter Smith fought hard, winning in the tiebreak seven points to four.

Gray and Fatchen hit back for Stosur to level the score.

Cindy Cabot and Chase Raleigh tried to keep their team in the match but Young and Lydeamore won their matches convincingly to hand Stosur a valuable win by eight games.

Wednesday night ladies

Young Jorja Povey kindly filled in for Raw Meat Store, who only had three players, and played very well, making it a great competition.

At one stage, in the closing game, in which Jorja was involved, there were 30 deuces. In the end, M M Tree Removals defeated Raw Meat Store.

Maven Dental defeated Liberty North Shields in a very spirited match, which had plenty of long rallies and lots of laughter. Thanks must go to Michelle Parkes and Lisa Giesberts for filling in for Liberty North Shields.

Last, but not least, Chris Cash Plumbing defeated Glen Forest Tourist Park. Thanks to Glen Forest fill-in Ronnie Goddard and Shae Bateman, who reserved for Chris Cash Plumbing.
