Welcome to the new calendar year and whilst throughout January there is not much cricket in Port Lincoln there is certainly plenty of cricket taking place.
Last week saw the Henderson Shield and Horgan Shield teams record victories over Eastern Eyre here in Port Lincoln whilst the Horgan Shield team also defeated Tumby Bay.
This weekend will see both Henderson Shield teams travel to Tumby Bay on Saturday and they will look to make it two from two after a good start.
Both Port Lincoln teams had solid victories last weekend as we saw an influx of youth into the first XI with seven players 25 or under.
Sunday will see Southern Eyre South travel to Port Augusta to play for a spot on Adelaide Oval in the Statewide Twenty20 competition.
We wish them the best of luck.
TWENTY20 GRAND FINAL
Sunday will also see Charlton take on Wayback at Centenary Oval in the local T20 grand final.
A new name will be etched on to the trophy for the first time in six seasons and a good battle between the two teams is sure to eventuate.
If Jack Shanley is able to return to bowling crease for the day then the Charlton side looks stronger on paper and tipping them to get over the line.
Today and tomorrow the Quality Wool Cup is taking place here in Port a Lincoln with some of the region's best junior cricketers taking part.
Matches will be played on a round-robin basis at Port Lincoln's Centenary Oval, Poole Oval and the Ravendale Complex so head out to a local ground and check out the future of Eyre Peninsula cricket.
Plenty of local juniors have been in Adelaide and the Barossa recently playing for Eyre Peninsula sides in under 12, 14 (boys) and 16s (girls) Country Carnivals.
Whilst Jaiden Jude captained the Junior SA Outback's to a carnival win in the Redbacks League.
Well done to all representing their clubs, association and region recently the future of cricket has some quality cricketers coming through.
